This is my simple photo journal. I like to take pictures and once a month or more, I load them onto this blog so that we can remember some of our family highlights.

"Must-Stash" Service Project

One of the things I love about blogs is the sharing of ideas.
I found a great service idea  ( here ) to show our appreciation to our Bishopbric and have a bit of fun while we were at it.
I got a variety of different 'staches to chose from.

They are just so terribly camera shy.

This is one of the leaders....I know, she looks like one of the teenagers.

We got to the grocery store and caused quite a buzz with the employees.
Each girl had 10 minutes to pick the perfect snack to add to the stash.

The following Sunday, we dropped off the bucket of "Must-Stash" goodies to the Bishop's office.
I hope we don't put them in a sugar coma.

My mother

Wow, I really can't wrap my mind around my mom turning 60.
She is ageless to me.

Some things I admire and love about her:

My mother loves to work outside and get her hands dirty- planting, trimming, hauling.

I have always loved her hands, they are strong working hands.

She loves horses.

She loves growing things- creating beauty.

She loves the mountains.

She works out to an old VHS tape while wearing a sweat band on her forehead.

She is practical, never high maintenance.  She is a do-it-yourself kind of gal.

She is not into clothes, shopping, pampering---she is a tomboy at heart.

She can fix almost anything and loves the process of "figuring it out."

I love when she is truly nervous (which does not happen often)
because she develops a bit of a Southern/cowgirl accent.

She does not talk about people, she prefers to talk about ideas.

She loves good manners and class.

She loves reading.

She raised 7 children in some difficult circumstances.

It would be very hard to offend her, she is very good-natured.

She would never go get a frozen yogurt, she prefers ice cream.

Loves butterfingers, junior mints, popcorn balls, peanut brittle, and fire hot cinnamon candy.

She loved being a mother and we felt that as her children.
For that, I am so grateful.   Because of her example,
I never doubted that I would love being a mother too.

Rite of Passage

Isaac had his first lesson in mowing.
Now that he is 8, he is ready to move up from
Cole's yard assistant
to official lawn mower....with some practice.

C & C Engagments

Chad, the last of my siblings, is getting married to Carissa Henley.
 Yay!
We could not be more excited to have such a great girl join our family.
Chad asked me to take their engagement photos.
I am not a photographer.  I am a faker--a poser of sorts-- with a good camera.
I am trying to figure out what all these buttons on my camera are for.
I had my first camera lesson last week, but it was after I took their photos.
I think the camera lesson just made me realize how much I do not know.

Luckily, these guys were good sports and
I had my sister Aryn to help arrange different shots and poses.
For those that know Chad, it was a small miracle that he provided a normal smile
in these photos.  I don't think I have seen a normal smile or facial expression ( in photos )
for 15-20 years...
thank you Chad, you must be in love.

Raider Ball

When we get a day off of school, we try to get as many cousins to meet at the track.
 The moms and girls walk/run,
the boys play Raider Ball.

Raider ball is a mix of rugby and touch tackle football.
I don't know exact rules, but if you get
touched by 2 hands you have to stop and throw or pass the ball to a teammate.
It helps lower the chances of breaking or bruising something.

I love that tenacious Meg.
I also appreciate the boys that are happy to have her join in the ruckus.

Good diving form, Ike.

Polar Dip

We held our annual polar bear dip on January 2nd this year.
After the event....our little cousins, from out of town, came over to just sit in the jacuzzi.
You see, they had just gotten back from getting their
hair cut and styled and were pretty proud of how it turned out.
"We cannot ruin our hair styles."
Well, Isaac did not care about the hair styles.
He pushed Adlee in the pool and boy was she not happy.

So, she enlisted Meg and Ava to help exact her revenge.

Isaac's friend, Peyton tried to help but he was no match for the girls.

Wait....pause....how do you put on a swimsuit inside-out and not notice?
The pockets are flapping in the wind for heavens sake.

As you can tell, Isaac was really upset by it all.

This chain of events sparked a huge 2 hour long water fight, including the teenagers.

Only in Arizona.

Celebrating 2012

Now that our kids are old enough, we bring in the New Year with them.
No more babysitters and turning the clocks forward to trick them that it is midnight.
The last few years we have made it a big multi-family party/activity.
This year we played frisbee dodgeball, courtesy of the Cowley family.

Rules:
Line up opposing teams, facing each other across a large room, field, or gym.
Place the frisbees in the center of play.
When the green light is given, both teams run to the center to grab frisbees
If you are hit, you are side-lined
(hitting in the head does not count and you could be booed)
If you catch a frisbee, you free a team mate from the sideline.
Play it out until one team is all side-lined.
*Important to note that we were using foam frisbees

Waiting to get out of jail
