Yes, I know... a little disturbing. However, he was the only one at our neighborhood Halloween carnival that didn't sweat to death. He was dressed appropriately for the 94 degree weather we had.

Indiana

Around here you don't need "Halloween" to dress up in character and you don't even need to see the movie. Isaac has been "the real Indiana Jones," for about 3 weeks now (ever since Aunt Janet got him his duds.) This is his daily uniform, just ask anyone that has seen him these past weeks. There are 3 rules: no wearing it to school, church, or to bed....and we've given in a couple of times on the latter. I kinda wish I had a uniform to just slip into and become some adventure seeking archaeologist. One draw back is that this get-up could probably walk by itself now. I have tried washing the pants but they are made of some funky material I have never washed before. It comes out of the dryer smelling like rubber and hot enough to catch fire.

Ike's little preschool buddy has been filling him in on the last Indiana Jones movie plot line. So, today when we were amongst all the Halloween decor at Walmart (a store I hate but that is for another post)....... he found the best most perfect relic--the crystal skull. He couldn't wait to get home with it. I drew him a map of the front yard with clues to where the skull was hidden.

He passed under it so many times that I had to resort to playing hot and cold with him. He thought my map wasn't very clear. I didn't know how seriously he would be studying it.

Wedding Day

They are married. We had such a great week of celebration. However, the very best part of the whole week was watching them be sealed in the temple on Friday. My dear friend Julie's dad was their sealer and he gave such great counsel and made it extra special. I love this picture, taken right before they entered the temple. Don't they look so happy and ready for their lives together.

Bridal Shower

Only 3 more days until Bridgette and Corey are married in the Arizona Temple. We had her bridal shower today. I loved seeing all my cousins and aunts...I don't seem them near enough.

The start of a Tradition

This weekend, we took Cole up for conference with the Shills. This is a tradition we hope to do with each of our kids when they turn 12. It was a great experience and we loved sharing it with Cole. We look forward to next year with Summer.

Priesthood Session

We threw a little fun in on Friday. We rented segways and rode all around the downtown, Gateway mall, the capitol, and temple square. It was a blast. I highly recommend it.


It only took about 1 minute to get the hang of it and we were off. You get the segway to move by shifting your body weight. You soon begin to move it without even thinking about it.....so cool
We enjoyed perfect weather on Friday and then the rains hit SLC, but we loved it the same. I love this boy. I love being his mom and watching him grow.

Being October 1st, Ike insisted and hounded me to get our Halloween decorations up. He began taking matters into his own hands and soon I had spooky pictures hung all over the walls, windows, and doors.
My excuse of it being too hot to go digging through the hot attic, ran out this evening. Right before nightfall, I braved the attic and brought down our little bucket of decor. We strung up the porch with cobwebs, hung our window shadows and adorned the door with our spooky wreathe. And to the delight of Ike, Tom came home with 4 big fat pumpkins. Now I just have 30 days of waiting and waiting and waiting with Isaac.

Tuesdays with Grandpa

Mark Twain said, "There is never yet an uninteresting life. such a thing is an impossibility. Inside the dullest exterior, there is a drama, a comedy, and a tragedy."

Every Tuesday afternoon grandpa pays me a visit and we sit and write his life's story. He is nearing his 85th birthday and so there is no procrastinating these things. He enjoys the telling and I enjoy the learning. I am amazed at how keen he is and his recollections. We often marvel at the minds ability to recall things that grandpa hasn't thought about for 75+ years later. It seems like I can't recall what happened a few years ago to me. Somehow our minds file everything away...its just finding a way to retrieve them.

It's Magic

We may all call it something different, but all parents have experienced it; those magical times when your children enter into a realm of uninterrupted play.....and the best part-- they all get along. These can sometimes last for hours, or only a few moments, but it is cherished... A gift that you want to bottle up and replicate again and again. Sadly, I've learned that I can never manipulate these, they just spontaneously occur.
Last night one occured close to bed time....dang it all. While Cole was at scouts---Summer, Meg, and Isaac were playing dinosaur eggs. I love the themes they come up with. I let them have an extra 15 minutes before I had to reluctantly shut it down and send their sad faces up to bed.
This morning.....8:15 a.m. Hair wasn't fixed and it was time to send Meg out the door for school. "Meg, where are you?!"

The sequel was taking place in the playroom. Spontaneous shots are always a bit blurry..right?
Tragically it had to be shut down.....for education purposes.
So, I have left the eggs out...waiting....hoping....that part 3 will take place.

Our Miss Molly

Time is standing still, for me, but it seems to be moving awfully fast for those younger than my 35 year old self. When I first met Molly (my niece), she was getting baptized and I was getting married. How time does Fly...........

We had a shower for her over at my house this week and once again, I forgot to snap many photos, but I did capture this moment.......

It was fun to watch Molly, but more fun to watch my mother-in-law (her grandmother). I love showers!

Oh Say, Can You Sing!

Last Saturday, Summer and her cousins got to sing the national anthem for the city of Gilbert's Constitutional Celebration. What a fun thing to get ready for. They practiced, as much as 7 different little schedules could in a period of 10 days. To sing two verses of the national anthem, with parts, is no easy task. They jumped in with great attitudes. This clip is an abridged version, because it can be a bit long (unless it is your child).

Current Obsession

Ok, apparently I don't know what this little guy is up to all the time. I think this was taken while I was in the shower. I often find all sorts of moments captured on photobooth by this little guy.
Isaac 's current obsession is paper, tape, and scissors. Creating things with paper and scissors and then taping them up all over the house or even on himself, provides hours of entertainment. This picture was in the latest batch of photos taken today or maybe yesterday. I think it is the moment Isaac realized that you don't tape the nose and mouth shut at the same time.

The Miss Rita Experience

After waiting.......waiting........waiting........school began for Isaac. All of my kids have gone to Miss Rita and boy does she know how to run a preschool. She has had 30+ years to perfect her method and with a special exemption from the state, she can use religious curriculum. She incorporates scripture stories and songs. She teaches them to read using story lines from the Book of Mormon. I just love that. It has been fun for the other kids to talk about Miss Rita and share Isaac's excitement for this new year. We are all big fans.


This week he has been learning about the first 2 days of the creation. So I had a little sunshine walk through my door yesterday, and today he came home with the seas and every living creature that moveth. All in an empty tennis ball canister.

Making Rolls

Apparently there is something in the air that is driving my boys to the kitchen. Cole had some extra time today, being Labor Day, and wanted to learn how to make homemade rolls. I sat across from the counter and just observed, giving a few tips here and there. He did it all and was pleased as punch at the final result. He got the thumbs up from all who partook.

Ike's Souffle

"Mom, can I please make you some souffle?" Cutting up baby carrots into smaller pieces is Ike's souffle.
I've been eating a lot of carrots lately. Thanks again Zs for the great cutting board that gets put to such good use making "souffle." I hope Ike isn't terribly disappointed when he finds out what a souffle
really is.

Loving Mac

So I am excited and a bit overwhelmed with my new Mac. Explains the lack of posting. My PC (with my life on it) won't boot up after we switched it out with the Mac. I think it feels betrayed by this sleek, more functional, and a lot more fun Mac. I still hold a little place in my heart for my PC. I knew it pretty well and it has all my photos, familiar software, and microsoft word. However, I hope to get Mac savvy ASAP.
Thanks to my good friend Amy for sharing her skills in iphoto. If anyone knows all the fancy fun stuff on Mac--it is her. I am going to continue begging her help.
Now that we have a computer camera, in the Mac,....we have discovered SKYPE. Many of you probably already enjoy this "Jetson" form of communication, but it is new for us and we are loving it. I fully own the fact that we can be a bit behind the technology curve. With Skype, you can talk, message, and view one another online. My kids love it. You can skype-to-skype anywhere in the world ...for free. If you have our e-mail address, just plug it into the search and you'll find our skype address. Just don't answer from anyone asking to "be your friend."

"When is my school going to start?"

This week has been a little tough for this guy. He is missing the kids. He made a preschool countdown chain today and we did a fly-by Miss Rita's......just to see what it looks like and to "talk about it." He has 10 chains left.
What I love the most about today is the hat. I have been reading John Adams (almost finished) and I love it so much. It was a story that needed to be told. Tom and the kids are the victims of my enthusiasm, especially Isaac. I want him to know a few historical stories. Apparently, he is on board with me. He ran and dug out his patriotic hat and wore it for the day. With a big grin he came down the stairs, "I'm going to wear this because we love John Adams, right mom."
Thanks to my friend, Gale,for turning me onto this biography. It has awakened a deep sense of gratitude for our Revolutionary Fathers and our Heavenly Father's hand in the creation of this great country. I want to go out and read all of David McCullough's work.

The excitement has been building around here. These three all get to attend new schools this year. Cole is off to junior high and the girls to our neighborhood school. Summer and Meg get to bike instead of bus now. They were giddy with delight. They got to meet up with some of their neighborhood friends to descend down "cherry hill" on the way to school.
Cole gets to leave 90 minutes later for school now that he doesn't catch the bus to Franklin. He loved me taking a picture in front of the carpool.

And then there is Ike, sad to be left behind. He has one more year of preschool with an awesome teacher and then he'll be with the big kids. Thanks Mom for coming and taking him out for a little outing. He's been playing with his new Star Wars figurines all morning.
I can hardly wait to hear all the details about their first day experiences.
